About

Who Are you?
My name is Paul Jo and I’m a student who’s devoted to learning the history. I was born in February 15, 1989, South Korea and grew up there until my family moved to Canada in May of year 2000. Currently I am enrolled in Burnhamthorpe Collegiate Institute, waiting to get into the university. My hobbies and interests are reading/writing/listening to book/music, playing computer games, talking about world issues, and sleeping.

What is this page about and why have you chosen this topic?
My topic is about the history of Korea. It will mainly revolve around the important events that have contributed in shaping a country what is now called Korea. Although it is my heritage and have heard of few stories, I have not yet been to deep depth of half-millennium history. I thought it would be a two-birds-in-one-stone benefit to study my root and present it to the people who don’t know about it.

How did you come to be interested in this topic?
When I was still living in Korea, I remember picking up a book, from the back of small class library, called ‘Seven Mysteries of the World’ and was fascinated in discovering the world of unknown. As time passed by, the fascination of learning about the past rooted deeper and deeper down. Also when I started to write stories, I realized that the history plays important role in creating the background setting. Now, in purpose to enhance the quality of my story, whether the history is fictional of non-fictional, I try to analyze and study the information.

What are some examples of this topic?
‘The Lord of the Rings’ is one of great example of fictional histories. From the creation of the world to current time, the time that the story takes place, it is very specific and well-built even when you compare to the actual history. Also, one of my favorite chronicle sages is ‘The Three Kingdoms’, based on actual history of China after Han Dynasty lost its reign over the states. It divides into two separate categories, the actual ‘Record of Three Kingdom’ and the novel written by Luo Guanzhong, ‘Romance of the Three Kingdom’ based on official and unofficial stories.

Now here’s little exercise for you!
These are the scenes from Korean drama series called ‘Jumong’.
I am hidden somewhere in the picture and you are going to find me!
Unfortunately there’s no prize… : -(
