Q: When was the Korean War?

A: The Korean War is a war that started between North Korea (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, DPRK) and South Korea (Republic of Korea, ROK) on 25 June 1950 and paused with an armistice signed 27 July, 1953. To date, the war has not been officially ended through treaty, and occasional skirmishes have been reported in the border region.

A: That is very subjective question. It all depends on the person’s taste but for me, Kimchi Jjiggae and Budae Jjiggae is the best. Jjiggae is heavily seasoned with chili pepper and served boiling hot. Both Kimchi and Budae Budae “>Jjigae require Kimchi, but unlike Kimchi Jjigae which is one of Korean traditional dish, Budae Jjigae was invented not that long ago. It is made with slices of Kimchi, onions, spam, sausages, garlic, and some noodles. The word Budae means ‘army base’ which is the place that Budae Jjigae was created soon after the Korean War.

Q: Who Created the Korean written language?

A: Korean literature, also known as Hangul, was invented during the reign of fourth king of the Joseon Dynasty, Sejong the Great. Originally, Koreans used Chinese literature but it was difficult to learn for the common people. The project was completed in late December 1443 or January 1444, and described in 1446 in a document titled Hunmin Jeongeum (“The Proper Sounds for the Education of the People”), after which the alphabet itself was named.

A: After World War 2 ended, the world entered the era of Cold War and invisible battles between Democracy and Communism begun. Even before Korea could have a chance to recover from the devastation caused by Japan, it was ripped apart to two pieces by the heads of each ideology, Soviet Union and the U.S. The debate between Soviet-American commission regarding the establishment of a national government ended in 1950 with no solution when North Korea crossed over 38th parallel and invaded the south. The war became stalemate in July 1953 as United States and North Korea signed the Armistice Agreement.

Q: Who is the founder of Korea?

A: Korea was once called Gojoseon, which means ‘Old/Ancient Joseon’, to distinguish between Joseon Dynasty that occurred later on. Gojoseon was ruled by a legendary figure named ‘Dangun Wanggeom’ who is the grandson of Hwanin, the Lord of Heaven’. His kingdom is thought to be established around 2333 BC based on the description of Dongguk Tonggam. The debate over whether he is just a mythical figure to explain the origin of Korea or he is real historical figure continues on even today.

A: North Korea is famously known for staying faithful to the idea of Communism and its notorious leader Kim Jung-Il. South Korea is known for Korean dramas, fast internet speed, cell phones, MMORPG and its high achievements in computer technology. Sadly, South Korea is also known for its secret of beauty, the plastic surgery.
